New to this but I received and started my first kit and i’m very impressed by the thorough, clear directions.
This carefully assembled kit has everything needed to grow a large batch of mushrooms. What's nice is the flexibility- you can grow a big batch of gourmet or medicinal mushrooms or whatnot with this kit. The pre-assembled and sterilized jars are especially convenient and worth paying for. I just don't have the time and equipment to make the jars myself. Also loved that the plastic container had pre-drilled holes (I would've made a mess trying to do that myself) and easy to follow instructions arrived with the kit. I've ordered from this store in the past and have always enjoyed excellent products as well as decent customer care. Shipping was prompt despite the fact that they have to assemble and sterilize the jars fresh for each order.
I'm very grateful for this team of long-term experts delivering sanitized products for experienced mycologists, and (in my case) providing well-rounded kits for beginners. The description provided on the glossy paper is more than suitable, and the kit itself contains everything that I could possibly need! Having it be my first time, It's very nice to know that this will be a VICTORY, on the first try. Some say it's a bit overpriced, but you really do get quality and satisfaction for the money. Their customer support was very prompt, and replied assurances nearly immediately after I had emailed them. Very satisfied with the company, and wish them successful business ventures in the future. You can be comfortable in the arms of these experts. Purchase with confidence. Midwest is absolutely stellar!
I purchased this kit entirely on the advice of a trusted friend. While I was initially nervous about the price tag, did it because I trust my friend. Now that I've had the kit for a couple months and have gone through the entire process and seen the results, I am completely sold on it. It was so nice to have everything I needed in one package and excellently written and formatted, easy-to-read instructions, including hard copy, pdf, and video. I am loving my new hobby!
While researching this kit online I came across many mixed reviews. Most mushroom growing forums seem to discourage kits, rather suggesting purchasing the supplies yourself. They claim they are priced too high and that you won't learn anything about the process. Perhaps one could save a little money buying up all these supplies, but it isn't much and I don't believe it outweighs the convenience. Plus the included instructions were easy to follow and walk you every step of the way through the process. I purchased the kit in mid January and innoculated my jars with the oven door method using spores from a recommended vendor. Jars showed signs of growth within 3 days. Took about 6 weeks to fully colonize. I am now in the middle of my first flush and already have over 2 dry ounces. About one month into my first jars colonizing I purchased another set of 24 jars and innoculated. I went to the store and purchased supplies for a second incubation chamber using this kit as a guide. Once my original set of cakes from this kit are finished flushing, the new ones should be ready to fruit. Most of what you are paying for is the substrate jars. Yes, you could save money making your own, but the convienence of not having to go through the trouble is worth the price to me. Midwest grow kits have a good track record and from my personal experience I will continue purchasing my jars from them. I've now innoculated 42 of these with no signs of contamination. Of my original 18 from this kit, only one has failed to fruit. I plan to re-dunk and try again with the next flush. So if you are doing this for the first time, this kit is a great place to start. It has all you need with detailed instructions. Follow them to the letter and you should get the same great results as me. After you get a couple grows under your belt, you should have enough knowledge to continue advancing in this hobby. There are countless resources out there to get you going. But for the first timer, I can't recommend this kit enough.
