The Original Rye Spawn Bags

Midwest Grow Kit's Organic Rye Berry spawn bags are a true classic for mushroom growing since the 70's. Rye is notoriously known for being a difficult grain to prepare due to its multiple shell layers and ability to protect itself from full sterilization. On the flip-side, Rye grain has one of the highest nitrogen levels in the grain family, which helps prolong your grow and achieve better 2nd and 3rd flushes. You’ll see many vendors selling & promoting grain bags consisting of mainly millet, which is easy to prepare and sterilize but does not provide lasting nutrition like Rye or Wheat or even Milo/Sorghum.

We have been working with rye for over 12 years and it always has been a great product but it had a tendency to vary from batch to batch, especially when making bags bigger than 1 pound. To remedy that, we recently added 3 new autoclaves to our production center which are capable of sterilizing at higher pressures/temperatures. After some experimenting at different pressures we found that a 22 psi cycle results in near perfect grain. With our new autoclaves we can sterilize 500-600 bags at once eliminating almost all the human error.

Midwest Grow Kit's Organic Rye berry spawn bags are a great add-on to any of our kits, simply inject 3-5 cc's of your favorite grain or dung loving spores into the self-healing injector port and incubate right next to your jars!

If you want to grow mass quantities, our amazing Rye spawn bags are an easy solution! Our classic spawn bags are some of the biggest you can find with over 2 quarts of spawn in each bag.

Each bag contains nutrient-enhanced cereal grade organic rye berries and a mixture of distilled and mineral water fortified with gypsum, diammonium phosphate (a nutrient to provide nitrogen release, and correct PH) and other nutrient enhancing herbs and minerals. Each spawn bag has a built in filter patch for gas exchange and a high positioned self-healing injector port for effortless and error proof inoculation.

We super-hydrate the grain using a new method that induces maximum water retention, then the outside of the grain is dried thoroughly on our new air carts. These bags are guaranteed to arrive to you 100% sterile and ready to inoculate! Each spawn bag is machine sealed and pressure sterilized in our Industrial autoclave at 20-22 PSI for 180 minutes.
